Learning From a Cat

The highlight of my last few days was going with my cousin to help him pick out a cat from the Larimer County Humane Society. He picked out a sweet fluff of a cat named King Triton. I always love going to the Humane Society and highly encourage looking there if you’re looking for a new companion.

In light of the cat being such a joy, I took two lines from the poem, “Advice From a Cat” by Ilan Shamir to summarize the rest of my week.

1. “Pounce on possibilities”

I’ve been consistently encouraged this year to do more than I planned. Invited to opportunities I couldn’t have expected and pushed towards outcomes that will have impacts far beyond my experiences. This has been really exciting. As we’ve travelled, we’ve been asked to toy with broader goals. Encouraged to attend Rotary conferences, encouraged to look towards meetings with Rotary leadership, and even encouraged to publicize and speak on our journey on large platforms. Having time to really analyze the potentials of these projects, look into budgets, and discuss what we really want has been a big task often lately.

2. “Delight in the simple joys of a long nap.”

Despite all the planning and daydreaming, the last couple days have been pretty restful. Around emails, research, and housecleaning, we’ve been getting a lot of rest which has been super nice. Despite choosing some late nights, getting to sleep in or rest during the day has been pretty different from most of the rest of our weeks so far.

Tomorrow we’re looking forward to an early morning and another trip into Wyoming.
