Wyoming Out, Reconnecting In

Unfortunately, due to a heavy amount of snow, we were unable to go to Wyoming this weekend. After talking to the coach, my fingers are crossed to try again to judge the same speech and debate meet I planned to volunteer at next year.

With Wyoming cancelled, and therefore the planning and packing of Thursday unraveled, Evan and I spent a few hours on Friday trying to decide what we’d be doing instead and we landed on some plans that ended up being exactly what we needed.

On Saturday, we reconnected with the Fort Collins Rotary Club at the Larimer County Food Bank. This time our hours were spent bagging apples for the clients of the food bank. Afterwards, we attended an event recommended to us nearly a month ago by the Boulder Valley Rotary Club. It was a concert hosted by the Reunite Cultures Fund, a Rotary founded organization, which focuses on uniting culture through art and the empowerment of youth. We had an opportunity to witness a performance by the Armenian Rotaract Cultural Exchange, a group of young Armenian singers, dancers, and musicians touring America with Rotary. It was an absolutely incredible event and an amazing learning opportunity both for culture and for organizations I’d love to learn more about.

Sunday began with brunch and ended with a night in with friends we hadn’t seen in a few months. A planned hangout between a friend and I turned into an eight hour long double date and debate night as we discussed, joked about, and argued about anything and everything over a large bottle of wine.

It’s hard often for me to deal with the way plans change but I am so grateful for the way things worked out.
