Thursday, our last day in Blacksburg, was our busy day this week! After packing up that morning, we headed to a meeting with the Rotary Club of Blacksburg. We heard from a palliative care nurse educating on the difference between palliative and hospice care. This was a particularly special Rotary speaker as she was a former recipient of a scholarship from this same club thirty years prior. This story resonated especially with me since the first Rotary Club I joined was one that previously provided me a college scholarship.
After the meeting, our host, Michael, took us out to work again with Sleep In Heavenly Peace. After helping build beds in Florida, this bed delivery was much simpler but also more directly rewarding. We went into an apartment and had the opportunity to build beds for six and ten year old siblings. I can’t say enough how amazed I am by this organization and the great work they do. After the build we helped them re-organize some wood in their garage before starting the five hour drive home, stopping in the middle for sushi with our friend Anastasia.
Most of Friday was spent catching up on sleep but a multi-neighborhood power outage kept us all in one room playing trivia for awhile and that was certainly entertaining.
On Saturday, we were back in the photo studio helping Evan’s mom figure out some new equipment and get set up for a shoot.
Easter Sunday was spent on a mini egg hunt in Evan’s front yard, a Dollar Tree date building each other Easter baskets, and eating far far too much candy. Easter is one of my favorite holidays so it was particularly hard to be away from home but Evan kept me entertained and calling home multiple times helped too.
