In Celebration of Mothers, Brothers, and Magic

We started out Thursday morning helping my mom out by bringing coffee to her staff for Teacher Appreciation Week. My mom runs First Steps Nursery, a program in Thompson School District for district staff families and teen parents, which serves children from 6 weeks to three years old. As someone who loves kids but doesn’t know what the heck to do with them before they’re potty trained, I really admire the important work my mom and her staff do. That afternoon, I got to do more work for family and continue helping my aunt coordinate the winery summer music schedule.

Friday was the final track meet of my brother’s senior year. I’m very grateful we’ve had the opportunity to be here the last few weeks to witness the cumulation of his athletic work and am so excited for his time as a collegiate athlete. Between races, I spent time getting a PowerPoint ready for RYLA training and answering RYLA emails.

Saturday was a busy and all over the place type of day. We started the morning at The Muse, a local coffee shop, with Ang. I managed to get some emails done for the summer music and some to coordinate Evan and I’s next adventures. Afterwards, we went shopping and back to Ang’s to do some cooking for our respective Mother’s Day events. Evan and I worked on quiches for brunch while Ang worked on fruit sandwiches for her tea party. When all the cooking was done, Evan and I headed home to get him dressed for our photoshoot in honor of Black Fae Day. Black Fae Day (BFD) is a celebration of Black representation in fantasy by allowing artists and cosplayers a day to create their own representation. Evan dressed up as a mushroom fae and we took some pictures around downtown Loveland. We ended the night with dinner with Ang’s family for their belated celebration of her birthday.

Sunday started with brunch as usual. As someone who’s family has always centered around the matriarches, every holiday and Sunday sort of feels like Mother’s Day to me but I love having a specific day to acknowledge the important women in my life. After brunch, we spent the day hanging out and relaxing with coffee and ended the day with a quiet night at home and one of my mom’s favorite dinners.
