I never would have guessed Nebraska would be one of my favorite stops but the last two days have been absolutely amazing.
After helping with some house cleaning, another visit with Ang and getting packed Monday we were ready for the road.
On Tuesday, a quick stop at my old middle school to intrude on a volunteer gig of Kai’s and see my science teacher started the day off on a high note. We stopped for snacks in Cheyenne, Wyoming before making it here in time for a Rowdy Rotarian Social with the Scottsbluff/Gering Club. Our host, and my friend, Audrey “Murph” Murphy also took us out to a brewery afterwards to show us a little more of the town.
Wednesday started with a little more work on mandated reporting paperwork for RYLA before we headed to our Rotary meeting with the Morrill Rotary Club. I had the opportunity to present for them on our year and on my DEI work with RYLA. After lunch with them, we left to our volunteer gig for the day. We were running an hour early so drove up a mountain at the Scottsbluff National Monument before heading to Buckboard Therapeutic Riding Academy. Buckboard is an amazing organization that does equine therapy for challenged youth and Evan and I got to walk alongside some of the kids on their horses for their sessions. We also enjoyed a pizza social with some of the other volunteers afterwards.
We headed back to Murph’s for dinner and got to try a local Mexican restaurant before returning to the house where Evan got to hang out with Murph’s husband while she and I did several hours of RYLA work.
