After the crazy week last week, I asked Evan what he’d call this post and the days we’ve had. His answer? Simply, “pleasantly busy.”
On Monday, we finally caught up on some sleep. After the full RYLA and wedding schedule it was really nice to get some rest before we started to run around again.
I spent the afternoon relaxing and working on my speech for RYLA. Four SCs give speeches on differing parts of the 4 Way Test and I will be covering “Is it the truth?” I did the same last year so I’m really hoping to change it up and talk about it differently. There’s so many ways the truth plays a part in everyone’s daily life so I want to find a unique perspective to approach it from.
After spending a little too much time fretting over it, we headed over to my cousin Sebastian’s house. Sebastian has been working night shift so doesn’t get too much chance to socialize. Since our sleep schedules are weird anyway, Kai, Evan, and I were happy to go over and spend some time with him. We did it both Monday and Tuesday hanging out at odd hours of the night making cookie dough, playing board games and video games, and finally getting to see more of his very shy cat.
Tuesday we also got to visit the third and final Loveland based Rotary club that we hadn’t visited. Each Rotary Club in town has played a special part in my journey and this club, Loveland, was the club that sponsored Kai and I’s Interact Club. Interact is basically a junior version of Rotary where we have meetings and then spend time together volunteering and making a difference. It was great to get to see Dixie who has been a part of Kai and I’s lives and Rotary adventures since just before I first attended RYLA. We also got to hear an interesting speech from Ryan Bach, the president of the Eagle’s Hockey AHL team. It’s been so cool this year to see all the connections Rotary has and all the different people we get to meet and hear speak simply because of our Rotary connection.
Wednesday morning we went out to brunch with my Grandma, mom, and Kai to celebrate Kai’s official first nursing job. Then we went over to spend some time with Angella. While she worked on some final things for work, we researched and emailed Rotary connections as we look forward to July and early August to round out our service year. We ended the night helping Kai practice a RYLA activity he’s still trying to get a hang of. I’m so excited to see him grow as a person and counselor this year and I’m already so in awe of the work and focus he’s dedicated to the role.
