Chili Cook Off Weekend

Thursday, Evan and I headed up Estes with a plan of visiting Boys and Girls Club Friday. It didn’t end up working out to visit so we wandered around a bit before driving down to go shopping for chili cook off ingredients with my parents.

The Chili Cook-Off was the highlight of the week by far. My family has been involved with CASI (Chili Appreciation Society International) for my whole life and I love getting to cook chili and compete with them. This weekend we went to the Betty Kiser Memorial Chili Cook-Off in Laramie, Wyoming. We spent the day cooking chili and giving out samples to people. I got to see a friend from RYLA, Kit, and Kai got to see one of his conferees as well.

All of the proceeds for the event were donated to Cathedral Home, an organization dedicated to providing resources and care for rural families. We raised money through a people’s choice voting category for the cook-off. My dad (1st), mom (8th), Kai (6th), and I (2nd) all placed and over $1000 was raised for Cathedral Home.

On Sunday, my family spent a relaxing morning hanging out and watching shows. They headed to my grandma’s for dinner and Evan and I swung by to say hi before going over to Ang’s for dinner with her and Chris.

We’re 10 days out from our Vegas trip for Kai’s birthday and getting excited about that as well as about a month out from our international adventures. This Coddiwomple is coming to a close in so many of the best ways.
