It’s crazy how much life can happen and change in just a couple short days.
Coddiwomple’s journey, though not quite ended, has altered from the course it was on. Unfortunately while we were in Mexico, the volunteer event we planned to attend was cancelled. Luckily, we have planned to make a donation to the organization we were working with and will have more information on that soon.
In an even bigger change, our adventure will no longer take us to Canada but instead has us staying in Colorado and caring for my younger cousin for a few weeks. He’s an adorable, sweet and sassy, 7-year-old and though this was quite unexpected, after only a day of knowing him, I’m more excited than I could have expected for the adventures it will bring.
These strange events and changes didn’t make Mexico any less exciting though. The day before we went, we stayed up way too late packing, finding final clothes, and visiting my friend Gav. We flew out early Friday morning and by that afternoon were spending time with Evan’s family in a beautiful resort. The White Party welcome party that night proceeded dinner at a restaurant with some of the best Indian food I’ve ever had. The next day, we watched the sunrise from our balcony before a full morning of exploring, dining, and swimming near a mess (yes I looked it up, that’s the word) of iguanas. That evening, we attended the beautiful wedding of Evan’s cousin Marc and his gorgeous bride Casey. It was a fantastic way to get to spend time with his whole family and the little beach venue was filled with so much love and joy. Afterwards, we danced the night away at the reception and the club afterwards. When the club shut down, most of Evan’s other cousins went back to one’s room and we all talked until nearly 4am when our shuttle came and got us to the airport.
Today, we’re back in the states and I got to meet the aforementioned cousin I’ll be caring for. Though the journey was not planned, I said I wanted to learn flexibility this year and here we are. We spent the day playing Wii, doing indoor snowball fights, watching movies, and celebrating my Dad’s birthday with dinner with extended family.
