On Thursday, I spent most of my time volunteering with my dad. I made muffins and desserts and got to meet his new sous chef. Despite how tired it makes me, I love getting to volunteer with my dad.
On Friday, we went on a few errands and adventures in Fort Collins. We drove in a crazy stressful rainstorm and then had trouble finding the location of the shop we were seeking. Eventually though, we managed to get where we were going.
Saturday and Sunday were our really busy days this week. Saturday morning began with a time-honored Loveland tradition: The Corn Roast Festival and specifically the corn parade. Rock had a ton of fun waving at and getting candy from the corn themed floats of local businesses, student clubs, and Loveland’s politicians. That afternoon, my Rotary Club, the Loveland Mountain View Club ran a fundraiser at the festival. We poured beer and sold cans of it and earned a few hundred dollars for scholarships for high school students. While I worked, Evan got to visit some old friends from his days as a Community Service Officer in Estes. One of his friends/former coworkers was celebrating his birthday and invited their whole group to celebrate together. Evan said it was really nice getting to reconnect with everyone after a few years.
Sunday began with another early volunteer shift with my dad, this time for both Evan and I. After wrapping up the breakfast service and making sure lunch and dinner were prepped, we headed down to Rock’s last family brunch in Colorado. After brunch and some errands, my parents, Kai, Evan, and I all got to take Rock to the Fort Collins Discovery Museum. We learned about music and sound waves, played with gravity and motion, and saw several animals both living and taxidermied. We ended the night with Beau Jo’s and Mary’s Mountain Cookies as treats for some of Rock’s last Colorado days.
