Looking back on pictures for the week and struggling to comprehend the last four days as only four days.
Thursday morning started with job preparation. A drug test for Evan and a finger printer background check for me. Then we bussed down to Denver to meet Kai and finalize some information for our lease. Unfortunately, there was a change of plans and our planned lease is no longer in the cards for us. Instead, we spent the day researching new apartment options and figuring out how to recalibrate. We ended the evening at Build A Bear with Kai procuring Beau the last of an elusive exclusive and visiting the school I’ll be working at.
Friday we redoubled our house hunting effort. We enjoyed a Cajun style buffet picnic outside and spend the whole afternoon researching with Kai developing a spreadsheet of our options. Later we got to unwind by attending “Little Mermaid” at the local dinner theater, Candlelight with my family.
Kai is an amazingly efficient and driven house hunter so by Saturday, we had three tours set up. We all headed down to Denver hoping for the best. We…did not necessarily find it right away. The morning began with a disappointing miscommunication where we found out a property labeled as a “house” was actually a “basement apartment.” The next visit was to a house where the neighbor (correctly) warned us about flood damage that had also gone uncommunicated. The third place finally gave us a potential for application as we found a large and affordable apartment near the college campus. After the visits, we spent some time exploring Denver. We visited several small businesses from a family owned alternative fashion show to a woman owed coffee shop as well as a vintage furniture and oddity shop.
Sunday morning was brunch as usual and we also got to celebrate my uncle and cousin’s birthdays. This afternoon, in honor of World Suicide Prevention Day, Evan and I did work for a project we found online making cards with positive messages for people in in-patient mental health facilities. It feels good to find little ways to volunteer in spite of life’s craziness.
It’s been a hectic few days and it won’t slow down as Evan, Kai, and I start our jobs this week.
